Ok. officially one year since I last posted but I've been busy. Six years in the making and it's finally all happening; Jimmy Two Shoes is going to be an actual tv show and not just something scratching the back of my mind. They've pasted a bunch of clips from the first 2 shows to create this little demo.

We're just about to wrap up the final leicas for the 26th episode so hopefully my time will be clearing up a bit and I'll be able to post more in the coming months. Ah, a bit of free time.

Anyways, there are tons of people to thank but too many for me right now. I hope to be creating a bit of a production blog over here http://jimmytwoshoes.blogspot.com/ soon so you can be introduced to all that had a hand in the creation of this badboy. I figure I can start posting stuff as the shows start airing.

I used to DJ this chill soiree here in Montreal called THE HAIR OF THE DOG. Monday nights... just a little fix the cure the loss of another weekend. The weekly gig started to be a bit much once steady work came in so I had to give it up. I really miss DJing. Still do it from time to time but it's hard to cultivate a decent crowd when you're out of the loop. Anyways, here are a couple of email flyers.

Here are a few designs for The Roaches. The show was created by my good friend Edward Kay (he's also my partner on Jimmy Two-Shoes).

These designs aren't quite done and they are a little rushed but I'm happy with the direction so far.

Been Keeping Busy

I've just recently done a bunch of ad spots for Galaxie Radio here in Canada. I was given the designs and the ideas then a fairly short period of time to animate them.

It was a little difficult to get these done because they weren't as "animated" as things I've done in the past. The movement is subtle and I used a lot of tweening, hope you like it. Look ofr the rest of the spots on the French CBC.

I just too a look at the video and the sound is a little off... oh well.

Sorry about the lack of posts. It's honestly been because I've had nothing to post. There's been a lot of late night working on a series of tv commercials. Decent spots but my my forte. I'd rather go all out cartoon but these are a little cleaner and "realistic". Here's a recent pic I did. I tried the no outline approach. I hope it works ok, it's kind of my first shot at it. I've been watching the Fistful trilogy and a lot of Deadwood.

Hello to all.

Again, I'm sorry for the lack of posts but I've been giving to ol' wrist a bit of a break these days. I feel like I needed a bit of a break and I've been working on a few interesting but visually boring proposals. More of a calm before the storm kind of thing. I just hope the storm isn't months away.

Anyways, I felt like I should post something for those 2 people who keep checking up to see nothing new (you cats know who you are... thanks mom, dad).

This is the pilot episode I did for Doodlez, possibly the best thing I've ever worked on. I was approached by a company in the maritimes here in Canada to come up with an idea to pitch to the local toon station Teletoon. I was leaving for the ritualistic 6 months in Europe so I had a pretty tight deadline and a tiny budget. So I decided to do it myself and use a lot of the cheats inherent to Flash. Me, I think it came out pretty good...

Can you tell that I'm a Chuck Jones fan? Yeah I lifted the idea a little but I truely feel like I made it my own. It took me about 3 weeks and a coffee iv to get this thing done. I have no idea how I pulled it off. The glass shatter alone took me about 3 days. I envy you computer people sometimes.

So that was the pilot and there ended up being 49 more of these little guys. It was a great 2 years of work and I miss it. I fell like I'm taking all the credit though, Campbell MacKinley did the majority of the directing when he took over for season 2 and he did a great job. Also, Duker and Lambey did a great job mimicking and improving on my child-like designs. Because of these guys and the talented animators Doodlez won the Gemini for best animated balh blah 2 years in a row (tv awards in Canada). Good on ya everyone.

Sorry for the lack of posts. I recently finished a really big contract and I'm quickly moving on to another one. I've got lots of little sketches while watching Deadwood in anticipation for the new season but nothing really worth showing. The work that I did on the other contracts was also fun but I was mimicing someone else's style and I feel cheap posting any of it up here.

There will be more. I swear, just not today.

Sorry for the lack of new stuff. I've been working on some Top Secret files that would burn your eyes if you saw them. Ahem.

So here's a few old ditties. One of my big loves is to browse around the Drawing Board, there's so many talented artist that post such a varied array of styles. It's very easy to lose an hour or two looking around. Every once in a while a thread starts that challenges people to re-design some well known characters. Here are a couple of my entries, Mr. Spacely and Astroboy. They were fun!

I think most of the people that pass by here probably already nkow about these two sites but they are definitely worth a mention...

KAUF

First up is Todd Kauffman's NEPTOON or KAUF blog. They just started in on a show called Camp TV and the designs are incredible. The look probably comes close to something you've seen before but the emphasis on character is what makes these stand out for me. One look at each of the individual characters and you immediately know exactly who and what they are about. That and the linework makes me crazy jealous. I haven't been able to move into the line tool yet. I find it takes too much time but it definitely makes for great eye candy. Congrats Todd I look forward to more.

The Teenage Roblog
Next up, The Teenage Roblog. It's been up for about a month now and I can't believe that I didn't find it sooner. There's nothin' I love more than seeing the creative process and they seem to be posting it all. Different artist's interpretations of the characters, props, colour tests, character building. I love it! Check it out here.

Drawing in Flash

So, I'm more than a little rusty of drawing images straight into flash. "Then why would you?" you ask. Well, it's a productivity thing. I usually like to have a quick thumbnail on paper then re-create the entire drawing in flash. Also, for new poses in animation, it's a good way to get really comfortable drawing the character on model (having the model sheet or another pose on the frame before and using the onion skin). It's not for everyone but it works for me.

This first image was drawn straight into Flash. It's a quick sketch of a character for a show in development here in Quebec. The sketch given to me by the creators of the show had a small goatee but, when I showed up, my "abe/Ammish" beard inspired them. No big stretch for me to create the character. I'm not really sold on the colours but these where sampled from the original sketch given to me.

Nothin’ to post today so I thought I'd put in a little link to a Dears video I helped on a while back. I wish there was a little (a lot) more time but I think it looks decent for the short time frame and lack of $$$. I coordinated all of the animation (I also did the majority) along with a few independents here in Montreal and Fatkat Animation in the Maritimes. Story and Direction from Andre Bendehan.

Ok so the Tarofish site isn't updated all that often... ore ever. But I've been busy so cut me a little slack. As soon as the projects I'm working on these days slow down a little I'm going to do a massive overhaul on my site.

The thing is; I spent a lot of time trying to learn the interactive side ofFlash inside and out to have a really cool site that does a lot of really cool things. In that time I really did learn how to do a bunch of cool stuff... then I got busy with other work and promtly forgot everything. So now I'm resigned to keeping it nice and simple until I can get someone on staff to make it look decent.

Other than that I plucking away at a video for Montreal band The Dears. I'm not the Director on this one but it's shaping up to be a pretty decent gig. Meeting new younger animators and it's a gentle push into the world of the animated music video. I'll post links when it's done.

The big news is a developement deal with Teletoon for a show I've been working on for quite some time now. I don't want to jinx anything by giving out too many details but I'm partnering up with Edward Kay and it looks like we've got a killer show on our hands.
